With the theme of Congress 2008, WACC is affirming that ‘Communication is peace’ and that communicators have a role to play in ‘Building viable communities’ centred on peace with justice.
The faith-based and civil society communicators from around the globe who gather in Cape Town in October 2008 will have a chance to analyze the role of communication in conflict and peace-building situations through keynote presentations, workshops, and networking with people whose experience spans advocacy for communication rights, peace communication, academia, and the production of plays, films, dance, print, electronic, and broadcast stories.
Congress participants will stay at the Ritz Hotel in the Sea Point neighbourhood of Cape Town and will meet at the nearby Atlantic Conference Centre for all plenary sessions and some of the workshops. Other sessions will be held in the hotel’s conference centre. Both venues offer top-level and recently-renovated facilities.
As the coordinator of Congress 2008, I look forward to welcoming you and to making this a memorable experience, one which will enhance your contributions as a communicator to conflict resolution and peace building initiatives.
