Explorations Workshops PDF Print

Congress 2008 offers 72 one-hour ‘explorations’ grouped around eight themes: Peace journalism and peace education; Gender and peace; Poverty, exclusion and the media; Religion, spirituality, and peace; HIV and AIDS; Communication and citizenship-building; Building a culture of peace; and Media and the ‘war on terror’.

Participants are free to attend ‘explorations’ of their choice. Sign-up sheets will be available on-site.

Highlights include:

  •  Conversations with keynote presenters Doreen Spence,  Ruth Ojiambo-Ochieng, Marcelo Rezende Guimarães, and with Charles Villa-Vicencio (Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, South Africa), Margaret Gallagher (international media and gender justice consultant), Cees Hamelink (leading communication and human rights advocate), and Albert van den Heuvel (theologian and former president of WACC).
  • Workshops on ‘Peace Arts in Parishes’ by renowned preacher and cartoonist Bob Haverluck.
  • Presentations by WACC’s eight Regional Associations related to ‘Communication is peace’.

 Case studies, documentaries and discussions on a wide array of global and local initiatives such as the Centre for the Church and Global AIDS, presented by Don Messer.
