«Ondas de Choc» conmueve a delegada colombiana

“Realmente he visto reflejada la realidad de nuestro país, me parece haber estado en una región donde viven nuestras poblaciones indígenas y afrodescendientes; son los mismos rostros que vimos en el documental”.

Así reaccionó Alma Montoya, de Colombia, a la exhibición de “Ondas de Choc”, un documental canadiense sobre una radio local que informa valerosamente sobre la realidad en la República Democrática del Congo, un país asolado por una prolongada y sangrienta guerra civil.

Ce mardi 7 octobre 2oo8, le thème du jour est Medias, et justice pour les genres, un domaine dans lequel la WACC s’investit activement. Le texte biblique de la prière du jour tiré de Jean 8 : 1-11, a donné l’occasion aux participants de mener des réflexions sur le récit de la femme adultère.

A travers ce texte se pose la problématique des droits de la femme. Elle a commis un péché d’adultère, elle a commis un péché punissable par la mort. La sentence des hommes qui l’ont conduit à Jésus est sans pitié, elle doit mourir, lapidée. Mais où est donc l’homme avec qui elle a commis le péché ? L’a t-elle fait par consentement ou a t-elle été forcée? Aucun homme ne s’est posée cette question, elle a commis la faute et elle doit mourir, elle n’a plus le droit à l’existence, elle n’a pas le droit de s’exprimer. Peut être ont-ils peur qu’elle désigne celui avec qui elle a commis l’adultère parmi eux ?

Obispo Tutu: Somos llamados a construir la paz

Archbishop Desmond Tutu Ciudad del Cabo, Oct. 6.- Nuestra tarea sigue siendo la de construir la paz, declaró Desmond Tutu en la sesión que inauguró el Cuarto Congreso Mundial de la Asociación Mundial para la Comunicación Cristiana (WACC por sus siglas en inglés) que reúne a cerca de trescientos comunicadores en esta ciudad sudafricana.

El carismático prelado anglicano, que fuera galardonado con el Premio Nobel de la Paz en 1984, destacó la importancia de la comunicación, a la que calificó como un “derecho humano fundamental, dado por Dios”.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu paid tribute to the long-standing support WACC has provided to South African partners in the struggle for justice and liberation.

“We would not be here today without the support of the international community. May I say a big ‘thank you.’ We are free today because you supported us,” he said in a keynote address at the opening of Congress. With his characteristic flair for presentation, Tutu produced an invisible magic wand and made all participants honorary South Africans to help him applaud WACC for its assistance.

“Clouds of witnesses” honoured

Apartheid heroes: Florence de Villers (left) and Helen Kotze (Photo by Erick Coll, Cuba) Many people outside South Africa would not know the names Florence de Villiers or Helen Kotze, two women who united in 1969 at the height of apartheid. They could not tell you about Zubeida Jaffer, a Muslim journalist and activist who exposed police killings in the 1980s but was tortured and arrested, or Diana Ferrus, who chose poetry and art to fight oppression when police forced their way into her family’s home to warn them to stay put.

During its opening ceremony WACC recognized “clouds of witnesses”--eight men and women from different faiths, backgrounds and races who defied authorities in the face of South Africa’s racism and oppression.

Enhance communication to foster peace in Africa

*By Frank Jomo, Uganda* Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille highlighted the importance of promoting communication among societies as a tool for peace and to enhance socio-economic development. Speaking during the opening ceremony of WACC’s Congress, Zille said communication is the most important component of any society and without it people are cut off from fellow human beings.

Zubeida Jaffer: una historia de ternura, dolor y coraje

En su sesión inaugural este lunes 6 de octubre, el congreso de la WACC honró a una nube de testigos, “personas cuyas palabras, acciones y creatividad llamaron la atención mundial sobre los efectos del apartheid”. Una de las personas honradas fue Zubeida Jaffer.

La elección profesional de Zubeida no fue muy del agrado de su familia. Ser periodista no era la carrera idónea para una joven mujer musulmana en Ciudad del Cabo en la década de 1970. Así que Zubeida Jaffer fue una pionera cuando inició sus labores como corresponsal de Tiempos del Cabo (Cape Times) en 1980.
