Media guidelines

We are delighted that you plan to cover Congress 2008. Over 350 communicators from around the world are expected to attend this conference with its important and timely theme: 'Communication is Peace: Building viable communities'. We know you will find this forum exciting and of interest to your media outlets.

Please read the following guidelines carefully regarding accreditation and coverage procedures. Should you have any comments or inquiries, do not hesitate to contact: Terry Mutuku at MT@waccglobal.org

Eligibility for press accreditation

Media participation at Congress 2008 is subject to accreditation by WACC. Accreditation will only be awarded to professional communicators - print , radio, and TV journalists, photographers, film makers, and news agencies. In order to be accredited to cover Congress 2008, you must submit:

  • Photocopy of a valid press card/employment ID
  • Photocopy of passport/national ID card
  • An assignment letter from your editor or producer confirming you assignment to cover Congress 2008 and giving details about your media outlet
  • Three samples of print or broadcast stories with your byline which have appeared in the last 24 months.

N.B. Freelance journalists and photographers are subject to the same requirements.

All accredited journalists will be required to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Travel visas might be required for certain countries. Please check with your consulates for further information.

Press Centre

Programme documents, press releases, speeches, background information, daily highlights etc. in English, French, and Spanish will be posted to the Press Centre .

Journalists are encouraged to subscribe to a free E-mail news alert about Congress.

An electronic newsletter will be posted to the Congress 2008 website daily throughout Congress 2008.

News Room

WACC staff and volunteers will be available on-site at the Congress News Room in the Ritz Hotel from Sunday, 5 October through Friday, 10 October. Location and contact information for the news room will be posted on the Press Centre web page in October.

Press conferences 

There will be press conferences on the first and final days of Congress 2008. Additional press conferences will be scheduled as required. Notices about time, location, and speakers will be posted to the Press Centre.

Interviews

WACC staff and volunteers will be available in the Congress News Room at the Ritz Hotel in Cape Town from Sunday, 5 October through Friday, 10 October to help you identify interviewees and contact them. However, due to our limited capacity, we encourage you to make your own interview arrangements whenever possible. Please respect the desire of anyone to refuse your request for an interview. In such a case, we will do our best to assist you in finding an alternate interviewee.

We shall post brief profiles and contact information for key presenters to the Press Centre in advance of the event.

Programme

Accredited journalists will have free access to all Congress 2008 plenary sessions, afternoon workshops and special evening events. The programme outline is available in English, French and Spanish at www.waccglobal.org/congress.
