Cape Town: Diana Ferrus was one
of the “Clouds of Witnesses” honoured at WACC’s peace congress. Ferrus uses the
art of poetry to express herself in a way that touches the emotions more deeply
than dialogue can.
Ferrus’ poem about
Sarah Baartman, a black slave who was put on display because of her physical attributes,
led to the repatriation of Baartman’s remains from France this century.
Her poem, “The Peace Song,” is a moving
statement of a victim’s last act of looking into her killer’s eyes with love.
